Know your Co-op
The next series of Know your Co-op classes will begin on October 22, 2019. If you haven't already signed up and you are interested in receiving the email notifications for upcoming classes, please contact Wes (see below for contact information).
The Know your Co-op program kicked off two years ago and the first class of nearly 25 co-op members completed the course. The idea behind the program is to educate our members about the inner workings of each department, explaining in detail how things work.
The topics covered during the 8 quarterly evening sessions were: 1) Introduction to Capital Electric including history, organization, and the co-op business model, 2) Generation and transmission, including a substation tour, 3) Co-op operations, line workers, staking and new development, 4) Metering, billing, outage management, and member accounts, 5) Energy services, geothermal, electric heating and cooling, and energy efficiency, 6) Member communication; community, media, and government relations; and Touchstone Energy, 7) Rate design/finance and Rural Utility Service, and 8) Technology and innovation, NISC, the future of our business.
The program included tours of a local substation as well as a tour of the plants and mine near Beulah. We hold a class once each quarter at our headquarters building and it usually lasts only 2 hours. We try to keep the group to a small size, about 25 people, so it is more manageable. We encourage members to attend as many of the classes as possible to get the most benefit from the program.
If you would like to sign up for the next Know your Co-op program, please contact Wes Engbrecht, Director of Communications and Public Relations, at (701) 712-7923 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
