Basin Scholarship

Capital Electric Cooperative is proud to participate in the Basin Electric Power Cooperative (BEPC) Scholarship Program to support our future leaders. This program provides financial assistance to help the children of our members and employees pursue higher education.
 

Scholarship Overview

Capital Electric selects one recipient to receive a $1,000 scholarship for the consumer member category. This award is one of 137 scholarships BEPC offers to children of member-cooperative consumers across its service territory.

PurposeTo assist with tuition, fees, and other educational costs.
PaymentThe check is made payable to the student's accredited school (two-year, four-year, or vocational/technical) and distributed in August.
RequirementThe student must enter college in the fall semester of the award year.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to apply through Capital Electric Cooperative, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Member/Employee Status: Must be a dependent child (including adopted and step-children) of a Capital Electric Cooperative member (consumer) or a Capital Electric employee.
  • Age: Must be 25 years old or under and a U.S. citizen.
  • Enrollment: Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a full-time undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational/technical school.

Note: The scholarship is awarded without regard to other financial aid the applicant may have received.

Selection Process & Criteria

Recipients are chosen based on a comprehensive review of their application materials.

Selection Criteria

Applications are evaluated based on a weighted system that includes:

  • SAT/ACT scores and Grade Point Average (GPA).
  • Participation in school and community activities.
  • Work experience.
  • A written statement outlining educational and career goals.
  • A written recommendation from a third party.

Application Submission

  • Selection: Capital Electric Cooperative is responsible for selecting our single scholarship winner in the consumer category.
  • Final Submission: The winner's completed application is then forwarded to Basin Electric for final processing and distribution of funds.

Timeline & Application

The deadline for submitting your completed application to Capital Electric Cooperative is generally two weeks prior to the Basin Electric deadline, typically around mid-February.
