Political Action

Your Voice in Washington

The electric cooperative business model is unique, and it’s critical that we have a strong voice protecting our interests in Bismarck and Washington D.C. Your participation ensures that legislators understand the importance of safe, reliable, and affordable electricity for our rural communities.

Capital Electric Cooperative, in affiliation with the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), encourages members to join America's Electric Cooperatives PAC (AECP).

What is America's Electric Cooperatives PAC (AECP)?

AECP is the political action committee of the nation’s electric cooperatives. Since its founding in 1966, AECP has supported candidates for state and federal office—regardless of party affiliation—who will advocate for and protect the interests of co-ops and their member-owners.

Why Participation Matters

Electric cooperatives face ongoing legislative and regulatory issues that directly impact our operations and your utility rates. Joining AECP is the most effective way for member-owners to participate in the political affairs of the co-op and ensure our collective voice remains strong.

  • Influence Policy: Contributions are used to educate elected representatives about issues critical to electric co-ops and explain how proposed legislation affects rural electric consumers.
  • Stronger Voice: By joining the program, you become part of a nationwide grassroots community with over 34,000 employees, directors, and members working together on behalf of co-ops.
  • Stay Informed: Members receive current information on legislative and political issues, including the AECP Newsletter.
