Capital Electric began Operation Round Up in August 1997 to help raise needed funds for various organizations and individuals in and around its service area.
Operation Round Up funds have been donated to causes such as rural fire and emergency departments, children's groups, community improvement projects and persons in need.
Operation Round Up works by "rounding up" electric bills of participating Capital Electric customers to the next nearest dollar amount. The extra cents gathered are placed in the Capital Electric Charitable Trust, Inc. to be donated to qualified applicants.

A five-member board of directors for the Charitable Trust reviews the Operation Round Up fund applications and determines the recipients each year in February and August. Deadlines for applications are February 28 and August 31.
All directors are Capital Electric members and elected to three-year terms to the Charitable Trust board by the Capital Electric Member Advisory Committee.
