Federal & State Energy Assistance Programs

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is a federally funded program administered by each state to help eligible households manage their home energy costs.

LIHEAP is the primary resource for bill assistance and offers several critical services:

  • Heating Assistance: Provides direct financial assistance to help pay a portion of your fuel costs used to heat your home during the program's operating season (typically October through May).
  • Emergency Assistance: Funds are available for households facing an energy crisis, such as a necessary repair or the threat of disconnection.
  • Weatherization: This program helps low-income residents make their homes and apartments more energy-efficient (e.g., insulation, sealing air leaks). This is an investment that reduces your energy costs long-term.

How to Apply for LIHEAP:

To apply for LIHEAP or to check the program's current status and eligibility requirements, please contact your state's Human Services or Economic Assistance division.
